Tile choice gets all the attention (colour, finish, size) while the adhesive underneath and the waterproofing beneath that get almost none. That's backwards. The tile you can see is only as permanent as the two layers you can't, and in a bathroom, balcony or terrace, those layers decide whether it's still on the wall in five years.
Adhesive isn't one-size-fits-all: a large-format vitrified tile needs a stronger bond than a small ceramic one, and using the wrong grade is a common, invisible cause of tiles that sound hollow within a year. Waterproofing has to happen before tiling in every wet area, never after and never skipped to save a day of labour, and adhesive that's rushed through its curing time fails the same way, just later.
This is the one place we'll push back if a contractor suggests cutting cost. Ask us before the decision gets made without you. It's cheaper to get right the first time than to redo a bathroom floor.
